Qurbani 2023

An Offering of Sacrifice and Devotion

Qurbani – a Spiritual Journey

Ready to book your Qurbani? At Akhuwat, we can help you fulfil your spiritual obligation and distribute it to needy families. Our teams are working closely with people hardest hit by Pakistan’s floods last year. They rely on us more than ever for Qurbani meat this Eid.

Qurbani (or Udhiya) is more than just an obligation to be fulfilled by adult Muslims who have the means to do so. It is a spiritual journey that binds us to the profound lessons of sacrifice and giving. This ritual is deeply rooted in the example and teachings of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). It revives our faith, reconnects us with the natural world, and creates an enduring bond of compassion and respect between Muslims who participate in the sacrifice together and share the meat of their offering.

The devastating floods of 2022 further battered the economy of Pakistan, which was already reeling from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Millions of people lost their homes, their livelihoods and all their possessions. Food inflation has reached unprecedented levels and families are struggling to put food on the table. Eating meat is a rare luxury. This is why thousands of our worthy recipients are praying for your Qurbani.

When you donate to Akhuwat, your sacrifice will reach those who need it most. It will help to put smiles on their faces and allow them to celebrate their Eid with a meat meal.

The Significance of Qurbani in Islam

The significance of Qurbani in Islam extends beyond the physical act of sacrificing an animal. It mirrors the extraordinary story of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was prepared to give up his most cherished son, Ismail (AS), in submission to Allah’s (SWT) command. When the moment of sacrifice arrived, Allah (SWT), recognising the magnitude of Ibrahim’s (AS) faith, replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram. Thus, Qurbani symbolises our willingness to give up what is most precious to us in the path of righteousness and faith.

An annual event, Qurbani takes place during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, from dawn on the 10th day to sunset on the 12th. The days of Dhul Hijjah are amongst the most sacred in the Islamic calendar, and the first 10 days are considered the best in the year. These holy days also mark the conclusion of the spiritual journey of Hajj. Every year, millions of Muslims fulfil this important pillar of faith and perform the sacred pilgrimage.

The Guiding Principles Of Qurbani

Qurbani needs to be done according to the Shar’iah rules and should also follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). At Akhuwat, we ensure that we honour your trust in us and that every rule is adhered to. The following sacred principles uphold the sanctity of your sacrifice and fulfil your noble intention:
By donating your Qurbani to Akhuwat UK Trust, you also contribute to our broader mission of fostering unity and compassion with our Muslim brothers and sisters in need. Join us in making a difference today.
