In recent weeks, Pakistan has been devastated by powerful monsoon floods, unleashing torrential downpours, cloudbursts, and catastrophic flash floods across the northern mountains and Punjab. Entire communities have been submerged, with more than 2,000 villages underwater after the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers burst their banks. Families who had little to begin with now have nothing — no shelter, no food, and no future. Over 1.2 million people have been displaced, while more than 800 lives have been lost nationwide, including over 400 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. Punjab has seen 600,000 people and 450,000 livestock forced to evacuate, as the scale of destruction continues to unfold.
The human and economic toll is staggering. The World Bank estimates nearly USD 15 billion in damages, with USD 16.3 billion needed for resilient rehabilitation. Over 33 million people have been affected, and more than 8 million now face serious health crises. These floods are not only a humanitarian emergency for Pakistan but also a stark reminder of the urgent need for global solidarity in the face of climate-driven disasters. For people across the UK, this is a moment to stand with Pakistan — to help rebuild lives, restore hope, and ensure that those most vulnerable are not left behind.
While the initial days of the flood crisis demanded urgent action, Akhuwat immediately mobilised teams to distribute Ration bags, cooked food and essential supplies to displaced families in the worst-hit regions.
Akhuwat believes that true compassion lies in restoring dignity and rebuilding lives. That’s why we are now fully focused on the rehabilitation phase.
Rehabilitation is where Akhuwat’s support can bring transformative impact:
Building resilient, flood-resistant shelters with locally sourced materials and inclusive design.
Micro-grants and soft loans to farmers and artisans to restart agriculture, poultry, weaving, empowering self-reliance.
"The believers, in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy, are just like one body"
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih al‑Bukhari)
