ABOUT US

Since 2001, Akhuwat has been working for Poverty Alleviation

Akhuwat works to alleviate poverty through our flagship scheme, Qarz-e-Hasna – micro-lending without interest. The funds provided are repaid by recipients in manageable monthly instalments.

At Akhuwat, we’ve set a new precedent among Muslim charities by enabling donors to give Qarz-e-Hasna so that people in need can better their lives. When the borrowed funds are repaid, they can be reused, over and over again to help more people in need. Beneficiaries are able to borrow without interest, as per the Islamic standard which firmly forbids Riba – usuary.

We believe that people living in poverty want the chance to uplift themselves. Because no one deserves to be dependent on handouts. And because handouts aren’t sustainable.

Create a Poverty Free World

Akhuwat gave its first ‘Qarz-e-Hasna’ – an amount of 10,000 Rupees (approximately £40) to a widow who was striving to earn a living through honourable means. She wasn’t looking for charity; she only wanted a helping hand. Akhuwat marked the beginning of a new chapter through its Qarz-e-Hasna scheme enabling the needy to borrow without interest. One that found its inspiration not only in economic viability, but in the Islamic spirit of compassion and generosity.
